Greetings to you fellow nerds of history and the odd curious-minded orangutan. This being my first post I will keep it brief and to the point. I’ve decided to enter the forum of blogging to unload and dissect the vast landscape that is American History. Within our current times, there is a growing need to enlighten audiences about true stories and the people who shaped them. My hope is the Liberty Flyer will be such a place where familiar and unfamiliar stories from America’s past will reawaken our desire for shared camaraderie as citizens of this great experiment in self-government.
My goal is to provide unbiased content that looks at facts and evidence that may challenge pre-existing assumptions or conclusions. That being said, there will certainly be posts/essays that have my added sense of humor or twist on things. But that is not to confuse you, the reader, with my intentions of providing fact-based history; it’s simply to say, I, like you, am human and enjoy a good laugh from time to time and must remember that life shouldn’t be a contest over who can be the most miserable day in and day out.
I don’t plan to venture into current affairs, unless they relate to topics worth discussing in this format. Simply put: dead people are easier to discuss because they don’t have angry Twitter handles.
As I’ve said in other forums, my job as a historian is not to tell you to like or dislike someone I’m discussing. My job is to inform you why this person is worth understanding: what they did and what they didn’t do. It’s up to you to decide whether you want to invest more of yourself in them.
With that last point, this will be a growing experience for myself as a writer, and I welcome the challenge. I do not present myself as impeccable and am sure there will be trials and errors along the way that speak to my own need for improvement. But so long as we remain dedicated to understanding the past and the actors who participated in it, we will be able to understand the turbulence of the present and be ever confident that our shared future will be one of peace and prosperity.
Expect the first essay within the next two weeks.
Take care now, bye-bye then.
